Invader Alert

The Summer Lakes neighborhood was visited today (October 20th) by sales people from Robert's and Associates (129 Wade Street, West Columbia, S.C. 29169, 803-739-4321) who were ringing doors to sell carpet cleaning. Their sales pitch is rather pushy.

This isn’t the company’s first trip to Summer Lakes – they solicited here several months ago and Atlantic Coast Properties called and complained to the company emphasizing that Summer Lakes has a ‘No Solicitation’ policy.

After today’s ‘sales invasion,’ one diligent neighbor took the initiative to call the Aiken County Sheriff’s office to make an inquiry. Apparently we are not the only area that has been visited by these guys. The deputy said his lieutenant's neighborhood had been visited recently by the same outfit. They looked into the company and determined that it was a legitimate business. The deputy also stated that this was the second complaint he had received today about Robert’s & Associates and that he was going to look around to see if he could catch up with them and ask them to "please move along."

The deputy also said that since Summer Lakes has a "No Soliciting" sign posted at the entrance and since we have complained before, residents are requested to call the Sheriff’s office right away if they continue to solicit the neighborhood.

As one neighbor said, “I am not trying to be paranoid, but I am really not comfortable having an out-of-town company drop off unidentified sales people on private property to walk our neighborhood all day.”

Sent to me by a neighbor: Thanks for the update. They came to my house also and really scared me and were very pushy to me also. I will call the Sheriff Department the next time.

Hey Bill, Thanks for posting this on our blog. Great info. Won't feel bad about slamming the door and calling the sheriff.

This was sent to me by another neighbor: Soliciting in Summer Lakes should not be tolerated, anyone who comes to my home or if I see anyone selling products or services in Summer Lakes are reminded by me that we have a no soliciting policy in this development. The carpet cleaners are the biggest problem, but I have been perused by all types of business including my favorite the water testing people. Once my mail box was damaged by a Dominoes Pizza guy putting flyers in our mail boxes, he drove down the street the wrong way and his mirror on hit the my mail box putting a dent in it. In all cases I have notified the old ACP office and reported the problem. I also call each business to remind them that this is a private development. I feel as though I am fighting a losing battle. ALL the residence in Summer Lakes need to be more aggressive in trying to eliminate this problem. I will take your advice and start calling the Aiken County Sherriff’s Dept as well.

From 'Good Neighbor' Roger Pizio: Just got off the phone with Jimmy Luquire (Atlantic Coast Properties). Talked to him about the "NO SOLICITING" signs suggesting we could use two small signs for either side of the main entrance. He agreed to get the new signs made and deliver them to me to locate them where we feel they would best be seen. He also agreed that if we proceed with the landscaping of the back entrance (off Bradley Mill Rd) in the spring that we could use a sign at that location.
